Basic Life Support – Healthcare Option

For hospital and clinic staff. Everyone who works in a hospital or clinic should have BLS training. The staff will be trained to recognize emergencies, recognize cardiac arrest and perform high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the hospital/clinic setting. This training is required in most countries for nurses, doctors, pharmacists and other support staff in the hospital or clinic. Patients will feel more comfortable in your facility if they know your staff are trained for such emergencies. Trainees will learn how to properly use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device.

Time commitment: 4 hours.

Basic Life Support – Community Option

For companies, schools, churches, offices, gyms, etc. Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere to anyone. Training people in your organization to recognize it and perform high-quality resuscitation to revive the victim is key to survival. You can designate 2-4 people in your organization to get this training. Once the designated individuals go through the training and pass the required competencies, your facility will be certified by Life Support Ghana.   Trainees will learn how to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in a community setting.

Time commitment: 4 hours

Advanced Cardiac Life Support

This is a very advanced form of resuscitation reserved for doctors, intensive care and emergency room nurses. Practitioners will be trained to recognize various scenarios that require advanced resuscitation, how to supervise high quality CPR in emergency settings and which drugs to use in such scenarios. Examples of scenarios include bradycardia, various forms of supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and pulseless electrical activity. Practitioners will learn to recognize the electrocardiograms for each scenario and simulate how to perform the algorithm.

Time commitment: 4 hours.

Advanced Life Support for the Work Place

This course is ideal for employees who have been identified as first aiders in their work place, church or school. The course includes basic life support, how to use an AED and perform high quality CPR. In addition, trainees will learn how to administer first aid to a victim who is bleeding, choking, having a seizure, having a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), asthma, stroke or diabetes.

Time commitment: 4 hours.

Automated External Defibrillator

The AED is a machine that can shock a person in cardiac arrest back into normal rhythm (back to life). It can improve the chance of surviving a cardiac arrest from 5% to over 80% if deployed properly and in a timely manner. In advanced countries, most public places have AEDs available to be deployed in case of emergencies. AED training is part of our BLS and ACLS courses. Facilities that are trained by Life Support Ghana are encouraged to purchase and install an AED. This is a requirement for a facility to be certified by Life Support Ghana.

Certifications

All trained personnel will be certified for one year by Life Support Ghana. Annual refresher and renewals are required. Facilities with at least two personnel trained and have an AED on site will be certified by Life Sport Ghana, if personnel maintain certifications. Life Support Ghana will install and maintain the AEDs on site.  Courses can be taken at our offices in Accra (Airport Residential Area) or we can come to your premises.
